How to care for your jewelry
At Loulouis we want your jewelry to shine as beautifully today as it will many years from now. Our jewelry is made of 925 sterling silver with 18k and 24k gold plating or platinum coating, often adorned with sparkling stones. Here are our best tips for how to care for them.General advice
Always remove your jewelry when showering, bathing, exercising, or sleeping. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, creams, chlorine, and saltwater – these can cause the jewelry to lose shine or discolor more quickly.
Silver jewelry
Sterling silver can oxidize over time. Use a soft polishing cloth or a silver cleaning cloth to keep the piece shiny. A silver polishing cloth is included with your Loulouis order. When not wearing them, they should bestored in a dry, dark place, preferably in a jewelry box with separate compartments, in the jewelry box we included, or in your Loulouis pouch.
Gold-plated jewelry
Plated silver is more sensitive. Here it is important to be extra careful: Use only a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and oils; you can use the cloth included with your order. If you need to wash them, use lukewarm water with a small drop of mild soap and dry thoroughly afterward. Avoid brushes, abrasive cloths, or chemicals – these can wear off the plating. If in doubt, we recommend having your piece cleaned by a jeweler.
Stones such as cubic zirconia
Stones can lose their sparkle if exposed to oils and soap residues. Use a soft cloth or lukewarm water with a little mild soap, and dry gently. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and strong cleaning agents, as these can damage both stones and settings.
When should you contact a jeweler?
Sometimes jewelry needs more than ordinary maintenance. A professional jeweler can help when a piece has become worn, damaged, or needs extra care. We recommend consulting a jeweler if you experience any of the following:
- A chain that has become weak or is about to break
- A stone that is loose, seems unstable, or has fallen out
- Settings that are bent or need adjustment
- Deep scratches or surfaces that need professional polishing
- Desire for cleaning, repair, or refreshment of older pieces
- Desire for re-plating if the original coating has begun to wear
A jeweler can give your piece new life, whether it involves simple repairs, thorough cleaning, or damage assessment. Caring for the jewelry you already own is also a sustainable choice – small adjustments can make your favorites last many more years.
Storage
To preserve your jewelry as long as possible, store it dry and dark, separately in small bags or a jewelry box so they do not rub against each other. This prevents both scratches and oxidation. Your order includes a jewelry box for storage, a small travel pouch, and a silver polishing cloth.
By following these simple tips your jewelry from Loulouis will retain its shine and be a beautiful addition to your collection for many years to come.
And remember — real silver should never be thrown away. Your jewelry has value, even when time has left its marks. It can be renewed, given new life, or submitted as value. A piece of jewelry is never finished… it is just waiting for its next chapter..
